Symptoms within somatization after sexual abuse among women: A scoping review

Introduction Somatization, defined as a number of medically unexplained physical symptoms for many years, is resource-intensive condition with much suffering. Adult somatization has been linked to childhood trauma in both men and women. Among women, sexual affects level greater extent than nonsexual trauma. Early diagnosis disorder would be great help patients society. The purpose this scoping review map summarize the literature on within women who have sexually abused, investigate if any specific symptom can previous abuse. Material methods A methodology was used. databases PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library were searched original qualitative quantitative research published between 2008 2019 that matched objectives review. Results database search identified 195 articles, which 43 retrieved full text. Seven articles included, involving 2076 All studies quantitative. included heterogeneous. Four showed inconsistent findings regarding link abuse chronic or acute pain. Two an association increased incidence somatic symptoms. One study irritable bowel syndrome. No identifiable scope study. Conclusions This our knowledge first somatization. suggest symptoms, but pain syndrome inconsistent. clearly associated Qualitative topic gap.
